Couples Counseling

***Due to a current system constraint, we are pausing accepting new students for relationship counseling whom have partner(s) that are not affiliated with the University of Utah (do not or have never had a UID). Students interested in relationship counseling but have a partner(s) that has no UID can participate in our relationship workshop, Cultivating Connections, you can click here to register. You may also call us at 801-581-6826 for referrals for relationship counseling with a community provider.***

The UCC offers limited brief therapy for those couples seeking affordable and confidential counseling services.  Couples therapy is offered to students whose presenting concerns would best be addressed with both members of that relationship present.  It is up to the students what constitutes a couple and all couples are welcome to utilize this service as long as one member of the couple is currently enrolled as a U of U student.  Married, unmarried and LGBT couples are all welcome.

Common Concerns addressed in Couples Therapy but not limited to:

  • Enhancing the relationship
  • Balancing relationship and student roles
  • Frequent arguing
  • Difficulties with communication
  • Commitment
  • Infidelity
  • Making difficult decisions
  • Parenting
  • Finances
  • Working on sexual and emotional intimacy
  • Adjusting to transitions (a new baby, death in the family, graduation, adjustment to Utah, Cultural and bi-racial relationships, both or one partner coming back to school)

Generally couples for whom long-term treatment is appropriate will be referred out to the community.  EAP couples services are available to University employees at no cost http://uuhsc.utah.edu/eap/index.html
